I know this heading may seem harsh however it is the truth non-the-less.
I just recently had a rude awakening to how vindictive, hurtful and mean spirited the UIA, Unemployment Insurance Agency in Michigan can be and are.
I’ll try to make it short and to the point. I as many others am a layoff worker and have been for some time now, however with temporary jobs from time to time I am able to qualify for “unemployment”. I had to make a new claim in January and did so, however when I reported to MARVIN the automated system the states has, I was not given a payment amount even though I had received my monetary determination.
Well, it seems that there was an issue because I quit a “seasonal” position at Macy’s in December. It lasted for four weeks. I have four bulging disks in my lower lumbar region and it is extremely painful to stand for long periods of time. Okay so you ask why take a job if you know it’s going to cause you pain. I was anxious to work and truthfully thought that it’s been many years and maybe I could last the holiday season at the least so I tried to go for it. It didn’t work, day one of the floor had me to the point I could hardly walk out at closing time.
Since I was only being scheduled 9 to 13 hours a week again I thought I could do it, but it hurt too bad and subsequently I quit. So now there is this issue with UIA as to whether or not I am able to work. But this really isn’t the greatest issue. These people dragged this on from January 19, 2009 to March 19, 2009.
I called weekly speaking to their representatives trying to find out exactly what they wanted, finally in the first week of March I got someone to get me to a supervisor, or so I thought. I was told to send a statement along with documentation I had a back problem. Keep in mind I have had no money since January, it’s now March. I had to borrow money to pay for my medical records to verify I had treatment at a pain clinic in 2003. I thought that was it! But it wasn’t, I kept calling into Marvin and reporting my eligibility and kept calling to speak to someone who could tell me what the issue was so that I could straighten it out. I even went to the “Resolution Office” in Livonia and was told that they could tell me NOTHING! What kind of resolution is that? No answers on the phone, no answers in person either. On that day I was determined to get an answer and called back again, while on the phone waiting the mail came and guess what it was?! Nope no money a denial of benefits and a request for restitution for past payments. I thought these people are crazy…they led me on or kept me hanging on for eight weeks denying me the privilege of knowing what was going on. Now we face eviction, no money no food and no way to get help…The UIA in Michigan is full of nimrods, idiots. It’s my prayer that no else faces a situation like this. If you are collecting benefits wait it out. Don’t try to work, they’ll mess you up every time.
